I keep seeing people complaining on this site about how annoying it is that YC isn’t killing more people. I understand wanting to see more action (I too get annoyed at 2 chapters of explaining how great it is that someone became a Monarch under 60, and then we have 1 chapter of YC fighting) but it seems people just want him to kill everyone he comes across. QY comes to him? Kill her. He sees the Cicada the first time? Kill her. Yun clan doesn’t immediately bend over backwards for YC even though they barely know him? KILL THEM ALL!
One of the things I really like about Mars’ storytelling is that, unlike some other stories, the people are more dynamic and complex. People aren’t just purely evil or purely good and that, from a different perspective, their actions make sense and are justified. For example, the Moon God DM was a really nice guy. He essentially got cucked in front of the entire God Realm by YC and instead of sending people to slaughter him, he actually wanted to help him (after the initial shock wore off). But, at the same time, he did abduct Jasmine’s mom and caused a lot of pain for the family (though he was tricked into doing it) so we did want to see him punished. I remember feeling bad when he died but at the same time I felt happy that Jasmine got her vengeance on him. I really like this about the story that I am almost conflicted about whether the person needs to be punished or spared.
A similar thing is happening now with the Yun Clan. With the exception of YX who is being a dick, everyone else in the clan has been super accommodating to YC and I get that he’s annoyed that they risked Yun Chang’s life and were going to do a forbidden blood technique, but from their perspective, it is the ONLY hope that they have to save the clan. Like, if they can’t get powerful enough within 7 days, they will die so why not throw caution to the wind. So when I see people calling for YC to slaughter the entire Yun Clan, to me it serves no purpose since (1) he wouldn’t really get any resources and (2) they didn’t really do anything TOO bad.
