Plays with robots

Really cute start with them as kids playing with robots and not “pinkish pink dolls” but some things don’t jive and some stereotyping put me off. It’s a mishmash of cliches and stereotypes especially around girls, boyish girl, pinkisk pink girls, cheerleader girls… Are the females in the novel going to become more and more helpless like the female lead in her unrequited love? Does the author hate “girls”?
